Monitoring and Alerting with Prometheus

Course on Prometheus by Edward Viaene and John Jambers. Prometheus is industry standard for monitoring instances and containers, and has been adopted by the Cloud Native Foundation.

The course got very interesting at the end, more focussing on automation with Grafana provisioning, service discovery using consul, and EC2 auto discovery.

For me there was somewhat too much focus on installation procedures on Ubuntu while there are docker images readily available.

Instead of installation trivialities, I'd have liked to learn more how to set up resilient prometheus clusters, and more on resilient storage backends and their pros and cons. I'll find that out myself.

Overall, you can get quite a good idea of what Prometheus is, and how to use it in under 4 hours - during the course I started monitoring my nodes with Prometheus + Grafana, and was delighted at the amount of metrics I could observe and the possibilities of Prometheus.
